Students in grade 3 play the recorder while continuing to enrich foundational music skills. In 4th grade students play percussion instruments to build upon musicianship skills. All 5th graders join Discovery Band in which they learn to play woodwind or brass instruments. In 6th grade Explorer Band students continue to play woodwind, brass or percussion instruments as an ensemble. In 7th-12th grade students may choose to join Apprentice Band in which students gain skills through diligent study to expand skills of playing in a concert band. Students in grades 8-12 are invited to join the Journeyman Band to gain independent skills and create a high level ensemble.
