Academic/Research Experience

  • While attending St. John Fisher University I have had the opportunity to work on numerous projects that have truly impacted my skills in public health. Within my public health path, I was enrolled in a course called Nutrition and Community Health. I decided to work with a group of other students on "Increasing Utilization Of The National School Breakfast Program Among K-12 Students In The Rochester City School District". My group and I worked on the project from 01/2022-05/2022. While working on this project we developed a problem statement describing the food justice issue being addressed which was free reduced lunches in various schools in Rochester NY. We developed SMART goals & objectives of the intervention. We developed an implementation plan describing the logical sequence of events that will result in change. Lastly, we made a policy map describing the implementation process through which regulations are developed and policies are implemented.
  • While obtaining my Masters Degree in Public Health I had the opportunity to work with ProsperRochester in Rochester, New York as a Program Evaluator. I worked with ProsperRocehster from 09/2022-12/2022. I conducted an evaluation of a trauma-informed education program designed to improve the social-emotional learning of adolescents. I also developed qualitative instruments about knowledge, comfort, and competency around business skills and leadership pre/post and connected outcomes to the program activities.
  • I also had the pleasure working with the Health and Wellness Center at St. John Fisher Universty in Rochester, New York on a project as a Program Evaluator. I worked with the Health and Wellness Center from 05/2023-08/2023. The project was my Community-Based Practicum experience. While working with the Health and Wellness Center I interpreted the results of data analysis for public health research, policy, or practice. I discussed how structural bias, social inequalities, and racism undermine health and create challenges for achieving health equity at the organizational, community, and societal levels. I constructed an annotated bibliography and used extended research to assess population needs, assets, and capacities that affect communities' health. I also proposed strategies to identify stakeholders and build coalitions and partnerships for influencing public health outcomes.
