Headstart Parent Volunteer of the Year 2013

I gave 20 hours a week volunteering at the Greer, SC Headstart program by reading, helping in the classroom, going on field trips, doing recess time, lunch duty, supervising nap time, assisting with small teaching groups. The head teacher was working on her masters degree that year. Without two adults the children would never have been able to ever go outside for recess. I never missed an opportunity to chaperone a field trip or spend at least some time in the classroom every day or getting to know every child. I was a former employee of the states of South Carolina and California where I worked with the Departments of Social Services and the Sacramento Children's Home. I know these children needed some parent or adult they could rely on to be there so that they could get that HEAD start. It was really my honor to serve them. I was named the Parent Volunteer of the Year for my area of Greenville County South Carolina.
