  • Including but not limited to: Performing a wide variety of tasks at the front desk of the library and within the library stacks, assisting patrons and maintaining some order in the collections. This includes answering the phone, checking in books as well as checking them out to patrons, registering new users, troubleshooting simple technical issues (Wi-Fi, printing, etc.), maintaining the general tidiness of the library, and keeping statistics.
  • Assistants must learn how to find books and other library items properly in the stacks. Shelving materials used by patrons, shelf reading and maintenance as well as assisting in the ongoing weeding process.
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of tasks in the technical services area of the library including processing new books, and inventory.
  • Assist with daily tasks associated with Interlibrary Loan such as collecting materials to be lent from the collection, preparing materials for shipment to other libraries, processing returning materials, and processing materials from other libraries. Support the liaison librarians by providing basic research assistance and technical support at the Front Desk.
  • Assist with a variety of projects and library marketing. Some assistants may be trained to work unsupervised shifts, train new hires, and assume responsibility for specific stewardship and tasks.
  • Cordial customer service is a must.
