Teacher of the Year 2012

I was selected as Teacher of the Year 2012 after being selected as one of four lead teachers in our district to preview the Common Core documents a year before it was adopted across the states to create materials, curriculum, and collaborative strategies that were used to train all elementary teachers across the district after modeling what instruction embedded with technology could look like to be used strategically in addition to learning structures already in place.  I asked for a device to be placed in the hands of every student across the district equally for all students from every socioeconomic background to have access to their learning.  They all ended up brining the devices home a decade later during the pandemic and continued learning from home.  We coined the phrase "The Four C's" after finding the four themes: critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication within the Common Core framework that was used by publishers and educators as they used these as stepping stones of what to remain focused on as we stepped forward into creating 21st Century classrooms.
