RN- Charge Nurse Pediatric Complex Home Care

Bayada Pediatrics

  • Oversee comprehensive care for complex pediatric clients in home environments, collaborating closely with families. Diagnoses and care including epilepsy, trach and ventilator dependency, complete paralysis, G-J tube care, medication delivery, and air decompression/ venting, nonverbal clients various neurological challenges, and those confined to bed due to orthopedic issues. I also coordinate Baclofen pump management and address bowel and bladder complications, including chronic Foley care and assisted tube evacuation. I administer extensive medication regimens and treatments while prioritizing client safety and comfort.
  • As home charge nurse, I coordinate efforts with the healthcare team and case manager to design and implement tailored care plans for clients and ensure plans are followed carefully, safely, and accurately.
  • Oversee the accuracy of client records by utilizing electronic health record systems for streamlined information management.
  • Execute infection control practices to ensure a safe healthcare environment.
  • Assist with onboarding of new nursing staff through effective orientation activities, positive feedback,
  • Participated in professional development activities to expand clinical knowledge and skill set.
  • Evaluated client acuity and unique needs to strategically prioritize nursing interventions for optimal patient care.
  • Facilitating timely identification of patient condition changes through thorough assessments, leading to prompt physician notifications and necessary interventions.
  • Offering other staff home nurses support by providing accessible phone advice when case manager is not reachable.
  • Implementing individualized care plans focused on improving client and family satisfaction through holistic approaches.
  • Facilitate training of new nursing staff, alongside the case manager, utilizing positive feedback and supportive strategies. Combating negativity enhances staff retention and helps ensure high-quality client care.
  • Monitor life support equipment consistently and adjust ventilation parameters as needed to uphold ideal client health conditions.
  • Educating clients, family members, and nursing staff on treatment options and home care techniques to promote consistent and effective care.
  • Analyzing client data and communicating relevant findings to clinical case manager for informed decision-making.
  • Conducting regular reviews of personal and health data practices to uphold HIPAA regulations and protect sensitive information.

RN, Emergency Department

Fairview Range Medical Center
05.2024 - 08.2025
  • Administered emergency care to patients, ensuring timely and effective treatment in high-pressure situations.
  • Monitored and assessed patient vital signs, adjusting care protocols as necessary for optimal outcomes.
  • Educated patients and families on treatment plans and discharge instructions, enhancing understanding of health conditions.
  • Led quality improvement initiatives to enhance department workflows and patient satisfaction scores. (Was President of both the ER Unit Council and Co-President of Hospital Unit Council.)
  • Mentored junior nursing staff, providing guidance on clinical best practices and emergency protocols (I was one of lead ER charge nurses and one of main hospital RN Educators.)
  • Streamlined triage processes, reducing wait times while maintaining high standards of patient care delivery. * this was one of our unit council projects in 2025.
  • Promoted a culture of teamwork within the Emergency Department by actively participating in unit-based committees aimed at improving workflow efficiency and overall staff morale. * this was another unit council a project. We set up ER clothing for staff (from providers to techs) to be able to buy to exhibit ER team cohesiveness and try to improve morale. We also tried organizing get togethers outside of work, cooking breakfast for staff, doing contests, doing surveys asking staff what they wanted to increase morale, et cetera.
  • Participated in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient safety, satisfaction, and overall Emergency Department efficiency. ( After unit council met, a separate nurse counsel met to address such issues.)
  • Improved patient safety by consistently monitoring vital signs, recognizing changes in status, and initiating appropriate interventions.* this was another area that we addressed in unit council. We made it such that the ER tech could enter vitals ( including pain level reported) and report any abnormalities to the primary nurse or charge.
  • Managed multiple priorities simultaneously while delivering exceptional care in a busy 24/7 ER.
  • Served as a preceptor for new nursing staff, fostering professional development and enhancing clinical skills. I was generally a fill in preceptor because I was more often charged nurse, and we did not combine the two positions.
  • Maintained strict adherence to infection control protocols, contributing to a safe and clean work environment for patients and staff. Are units contamination rates for our blood cultures? A dramatically improved over it a six month period.
  • Reduced wait times and improved patient satisfaction by effectively managing resources and coordinating with ancillary departments (worked one charge nurse to another.)
  • Provided emotional support to patients experiencing trauma or medical emergencies, ensuring a positive and compassionate environment (The Charge RN, along with the Patient Care Supervisor, are tasked with this in the ER.)
  • Streamlined triage processes for efficient patient assessment and prioritization of care needs. *part of unit council goals 2025
  • Maintained accurate documentation and communicated efficiently with providers, as charge- being the facilitator-ensuring timely tests, diagnoses, orders, and med/treatment interventions (and re-eval- did it help?)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in performing emergency procedures such as wound care, IV insertion, ECG interpretation, and life-saving interventions following ACLS guidelines. Part of the reason that I taught each one of these classes, was to ensure I was always as proficient as possible in each skill.
  • Utilized strong critical thinking skills to rapidly assess patients' conditions during high-stress situations while remaining calm under pressure.
  • Participated in ongoing education programs to maintain knowledge of best practices for emergency nursing care. My plan was keeping up on certifications such as TNCC, NRP, ACLS, PALS, etc. and moving to instructing all or as many as the hospital would let me. That way, I'd stay put up to date on all of the latest literature while teaching.
  • Facilitated therapeutic communication, conflict resolution and crisis intervention by redirecting negative behaviors and helping patients regain or improve coping abilities. This was especially important in patients with behavioral health emergencies.
  • Conducted ongoing monitoring and evaluations of behaviors and conditions, and updated house supervisors with current information. This was especially important as the charge nurse. So we would know how many beds we had available? And if condition changed, we had to go to the OR stat, or we shipped a patient out, that may open up a bed or change a regular room to an ICU room needed. This is why communication is so important.
  • Performed triage on incoming patients and determined severity of injuries and illnesses.
  • Equipped patients with tools and knowledge needed for speedy and sustained recovery.
  • Conveyed treatment options, diagnosis information and home care techniques to patients and caregivers to continue care consistency. This was an important part of education for patients who were going home. Better to assume, the patient and family know nothing and teach/explain too much, than wish I would have taught more.
  • Led teams in driving successful patient outcomes by prioritizing standard of care and best practices. This was part of my job as ED Unit Council President, RN educator, and charge nurse.
  • Collaborated with leadership to devise initiatives for improving nursing satisfaction, retention and morale. This was done during the hospital nursing council. All of the different department leadership was present at those meetings.
  • Participated in evidence-based practice project implementation, nursing competency development and nursing simulation activities. Dissimulation activities was part of being an educator. We would do code blue drills in ED, ICU, Medical, clinic, hospital entryway, etc. We also did malignant hyperthermia, drills and even code pink drills (missing newborn.) These are all excellent because they involve staff from all over the hospital to be successful.

This helped prioritize what the volunteer provider would be seeing them for and potential treatment plans.
