• Provide direct nursing care to patients receiving hemodialysis treatments.
• Serve as charge nurse, overseeing daily unit operations, coordinating patient care, delegating assignments, and supporting staff to ensure safe and efficient patient care.
• Develop and document individualized nursing care plans.
• Assess patients before, during, and after dialysis, including vital signs, fluid status, and treatment tolerance
• Initiate, monitor, and terminate hemodialysis treatments according to prescribed orders and facility protocols.
• Perform AV fistula and graft cannulation using aseptic technique, assess access for patency and complications, and monitor for signs of infection or infiltration.
• Respond promptly to changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions, including emergency response when necessary
•Perform catheter care and maintain aseptic technique to reduce the risk of infection
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments, including anticoagulants and medications related to dialysis care. heparin, IV antibiotics, erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs),Venofer and cinacalcet (Sensipar)
• Collaborate with nephrologists, advanced practice providers, patient care technicians, and other members of the healthcare team
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient response to treatment.
• Review laboratory results and communicate significant changes in patient condition to the appropriate healthcare provider.
• Educate patients on dialysis treatment, vascular access care, fluid management, diet, medications, and adherence to the prescribed treatment plan.
