Student Assistant

As a Student Assistant in the Center for Academic Success and Engagement (CASE), I have a wide range of responsibilities depending on which floor (2nd or 4th) I work.

2nd Floor Responsibilities Include:

  • Greeting and directing guests to the correct floors, rooms, and offices.
  • Informing guests on room reservation policies and availability.
  • Answering guests' questions, and problem-solving in person and over the phone.
  • Hourly facility checks for orderliness, and communicating issues to management and custodial staff.

4th Floor Responsibilities Include:

  • Postal mail monitoring and tracking.
  • Communications with university and external users of building spaces.
  • Calculating and documenting tour-group sizes, using Excel and the Slate guest management system.
  • Scheduling admission advising appointments for prospective and admitted students.
  • Resolving guest issues, including parking payments and missed tours.

During my time at CASE I upheld the organization and cleanliness of the building with exceptional attention to detail, as noted by management.

Research Assistant

Research Assistant Duties Include:

  • Helping the graduate student to conduct qualitative research, both in person and over the phone, when necessary.
  • Using Dedoose to read interview transcripts and code (highlighting and categorizing themes within the texts) them.
  • Collaborated with other researchers in developing study designs, methods, and tools for data collection.
  • Attending weekly meetings with team members to review coding work, where we reviewed the previous week's coding, revised our coding categories, and discussed any scheduling for upcoming interviews.
  • Thinking creatively to consider codes that had the potential to be relevant to the thesis topic, and suggesting them during meetings.

  • Greeting guests, and advising on products and purchases.
  • Customer check-out, returns, exchanges, and problem-solving.
  • Product unboxing, stocking, and updating inventory.
  • Keeping product shelves clean, orderly, and presentable.

During my time at Office Max/Depot, I was one of the most highly rated employees by customers. I not only maintained but also improved the store's organization, cleanliness, and presentability, as noted by management.
