I am a lifelong learner and educator, dedicated to fostering academic growth, inspiring a love for learning, and creating engaging and inclusive learning environments. My struggles with my intellectual disabilities, mental health, and bullying as a student, give me a unique perspective on education and allow me to approach student success with a great amount of patience and understanding.
As a student teacher, I am in charge of five classes (3 sections of Integrated Mathematics II and 2 sections of Integrated Mathematics III). As a student teacher, I have developed many skills in classroom management, adaptability, student engagement, lesson development, differentiated instruction, and promoting procedural fluency, conceptual understanding, and mathematical reasoning/ problem-solving.
I worked as an instructor for MA 152 (College Algebra). My responsibilities included planning/ giving lectures, creating/ grading quizzes, and proctoring exams. During this time, I developed many skills in explaining and teaching mathematics. I learned to overcome obstacles as an educator during this, having experienced a concussion during this semester.
During this time I observed Zach Brennan teach his Integrated I classes. I logged 45 hours of observation during this time. While in the classroom I would walk around helping students with their in-class work. I would often lead part of the notes portions of the lessons and taught a couple of full lessons as well.
During this time I observed Susan McRoberts teach a 7th grade math class. The class I observed included a co-teacher and students slowly being integrated into a regular classroom. These were students with troubled backgrounds and mental health issues. This field experience pushed me in ways I was not expecting and made me think about how I can impact students' lives as an educator.
