The position of School Security Officer has been a focal point of my post State Police career. A number of my colleagues have become School Security Officers and continually express how appreciative they are to have such a influential and gratifying position.

I would sincerely appreciate the opportunity to utilize my experience as a educator and law enforcement professional to protect and possibly influence the youth of our community in a positive fashion.

While serving in this position, I provide armed security at all of the Convention Center facilities. They include: Convention Center, Erie County Civic Center, Warner Theatre and sporting events which are conducted at the Civic Center complex.
I am entrust with effectively communicating with patrons who attend the above mentioned events and assure them they are protected and welcomed at the facilities.
If an incident should develop, I am responsible to effectively control the incident to assure the safety of all patrons. If additional investigative efforts or restraint is required, I am to contact the local law enforcement entity (City of Erie Police)

This was my second tenure at Gannon University as an Adjunct Professor teaching student majoring in Criminal Justice. My first tenure was from the spring of 2000 to the spring of 2005. I unfortunately had to resign at that time due to a scheduling conflict with my full-time position as a Task Force Officer with the Bur. of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
During both tenures, I was responsible for developing a course curriculum designed to educate undergraduate students in numerous Criminal Justice related fields. My areas of focus involved: Investigative Concepts, Crime Scene Analysis, Careers in Law Enforcement and Police Function.
I developed and implemented unique class activities and effective communication methods to teach students is a way which allowed them to better understand and apply the material in a law enforcement career.

While with the State Police , I have had a rewarding and fulfilling career. Upon my graduation from the Academy, I began my career as a Patrol Trooper in Lancaster, PA. My duties as a Patrol Trooper involved enforcing and applying as aspects of the Crime and Vehicle Code.
I returned to my home Troop, Troop E, where I became a member of the Girard Crime Unit. While in this position, I was entrusted with conducting detailed criminal investigations with a focus of successful criminal prosecution.
Following a proven history of accomplishment in the above position, I was assigned the position of a Federal Task Force Officer with the Bur. of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. While in this position my duties involved the utilization of the federal and state crimes codes to successfully investigate and prosecute individuals who violated the law as it related to drugs and gun trafficking. I remained in this position until 2011 when I returned to the Crime Unit in Troop E Headquarters.
I remained in the above position where I continued to develop my experience in Criminal Investigations. I was either the lead investigator or major contributor in over 55 successful homicide investigations. I attended over 75 training seminars over the course of my career which were focused on improving my knowledge and utilization of important criminal investigative methods. This experience and trainings assisted me in becoming an effective interviewer and interrogators.
I advanced my career when I became the Troop E, Cold Case Unit investigator (CIA Unit)responsible for furthering the investigative efforts of over 30 Troop E cold cases. While in the position of Troop CIA officer I attended numerous trainings related to Amber Alert. The training provided me with the necessary education to become an Amber Alert Designee for the Pa.State Police.
I remained in that position until I was promoted to the rank of Corporal and assigned the supervision of the six person Girard Station crime Unit. I was responsible for the review of the entire stations crime reports as well as coordinating the Crime Unit in every day operations. When a major incident occurred, I was tasked with leading the major case unit with the investigation of the incident.
I remained a Crime Supervisor and transferred to the Troop E, Erie Headquarters station where I maintained the same duties as the previous station but also became responsible for the supervision of the Forensic Services Unit, Fire Marshall Unit, CIA Unit and Polygraph Unit.
Two years later, I was promoted to the rank of Sergeant where I supervised all the special projects which were assigned to Troop E Headquarters from our main Headquarters located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Throughout my career I focused on becoming an effective leader and communicator. I led by example and communicated unit goals in such a fashion that all members played a role in achieving the goal.

As a Phase 1 Facilitator, I developed innovative techniques to educate DUI offenders utilizing state established criteria.
State law required all offender to attend twenty-five hours of education on the hazards of drink and driving. This was obviously a captive audience, which could have created an hostile learning environment. I utilized effective communication and de-escalation methods to relate to the class which at the conclusion of five weeks very often changed their option of the required education and left students thanking me for the information.
Evaluations were conducted by each student at the conclusion of each class session and reviewed by a board of five members. Continued positive feedback from the students allowed me the opportunity and privilege to conduct these classes for twenty-seven years.

Throughout my education and professional career, I took pride in being an effective communicator Communication was essential as an adjunct professor at Gannon University and as a facilitator for the Erie County DUI Program'

As a supervisor with the State Police, I had to communicate with additional supervisors as well as my subordinates in various types of settings The setting ranged from staff meetings to highly stressful criminal incidents that required quick and well thought out decisions The stressful situation required an immediate evaluation of the situation as it related to officer safety, community safety and allocation of resources to effectively contain the situation and begin the investigative process

The numerous trainings I received from all of my professional experience has prepared me well to handle a wide variety of emergency situations The required CPR and First-Aid training, which I received throughout my 25 years on the State Police, was a focal point of annual trainings As a first responders, we were often times called upon the execute life saving measure for the community which we served

I also received in excess of 75 law enforcement trainings ranging from Street Survival, Crime Scene Investigations, Interviewing and Interrogation Techniques and Amber Alert Designee for the State of Pennsylvania

If I was to summarize my skills, which specifically apply to the School Security Officer, I would have to highlight my ability to communicate, lead and evaluate a large spectrum of incident to determine the most effective method of resolution
