My name is Erica Atkins, and I’m currently a sophomore at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, majoring in Social Work with a minor in Sociology. I also have a concentration in addiction studies because I want to understand addiction on a deeper level and how it affects people’s lives and relationships. After graduation, I plan to get my EMT licenses and pursue my Bachelors degree working with children and elderly individuals or individuals who struggle with addiction, where I can use what I’ve learned about addiction and human behavior to make a positive difference in my future career. I’m passionate about helping others and learning how social work connects to real-world issues like restorative justice, mental health, and community support. I like looking at situations from different perspectives and finding ways to help people feel heard and understood. Outside of school, I actually find cleaning really relaxing, it’s my kind of therapy. I also love music, especially Gospel music, because the songs talk about strength, loss, and empowerment in ways that really speak to me.
