As an active Emergency Medical Technician in Bridgeport, I have dealt with many mental illness calls. Those calls include suicidal ideations, suicide attempts, routine checkups, and patients with mental disorders, such as schizophrenia and others. Through active listening and understanding, I have been able to help many patients slow down their racing thoughts, and help bring peace back into their minds. Working with people in need is the large majority of my job, and helping people is all I know how to do and want to become even better at doing. Through my determination to help others, I will not only complete my goal of becoming a mental health counselor, but I will excel at it as well.
Through helping a woman grieve over the loss of a child, to helping an addict overcome the urge to use that day, I have many experiences with dealing with mental health issues and counseling. I am more than ready and prepared to take my next step and go on this journey of becoming a mental health counselor.
