Work History
Senior Solutions Reliability Engineer (SRE IV)
Capital Group
04.2006 - 09.2024
Started as contract to hire via Saphire Technologies as a Software Analyst then hired as a Capitol Group full time associate. The latest roles included: Scrum Master for multiple teams (Scrum&Kanban) facilitating all ceremonies for the CI/CD platforms on the DevOps team, creating the Enterprise Agile learning program on the Degreed learning platform and contributing to Capital’s Agile Guild.
American Funds Services (AFS)
Helped design, develop and support multiple .NET, Java applications. These applications included desktop applications, middle-ware services and batch application.
Transitioned to the AFD Rollout team. Team lead of 6. As a lead, I was able to help development teams transition to the standard tool-set and processes for release management.
American Funds Distribution (AFD)/AFS and Capital Bank & Trust (CBT)
I then transitioned to team lead of 5 of the AFD/AFS (L2) support team. Duties included, 24/7 support. xMatters was used to setup on-call rotations for myself and team members. I was able to ensure team members had appropriate access to all AFS/AFD applications. I contributed to many support documentation to assist team members resolve common issues found in applications, worked with Capital Group vendors to resolve issues impacting Capital Group applications.
Internally trained in the ITIL framework and incorporated Capital Groups ITIL based standards into the team.
The organization started incorporating Splunk into the enterprise. I was again internal trained in Splunk and help create various alerts and dashboards within Splunk for support purposes.
The team also started support for Capital Groups Digital team supporting the capgroup.com applications and services.
I was selected as lead to represent all L2 support teams (30+) in the enterprise to help transition from the legacy Remedy solution to ServiceNow for the enterprise.
After the enterprise successfully migrated to ServiceNow, I was nominated to the ITG Excellence award for my work performed.
I was then selected to represent the L2 supports teams in Capital Group’s Agile Guild (a group of selected individuals to help push Agile across IT departments). At this point I was trained in the Agile methodology and help apply the Agile principles into the support teams.
At this point. I started to perform the Scrum Master role for the AFS/AFD team.
While performing my L2 and Scrum master roles, I was selected to be part of a DevSecOps POD to learn and apply the DevSecOps mindset within the organization.
During my time in the DevSecOps POD, I was able to create the Enterprise Agile Learning program using the Degreed platform.
While on the DevSecOps POD, I was also engaged to assist with Digital’s team release management process. During this time, I utilized the existing Capital’s XL Release instance to create a custom XLR template and utilizing an Ansible Tower plug-in to create a standard way of releasing software to capgroup.com. After many late nights of releasing and improving the XLR template, I was able to help reduce release times from an all night event to about 1 hour. This helped the Digital team stream line their process and consistency when releasing software.
After my duties on the DevSecOps POD, I was recognized in an internal article from a senior leader involved in the POD, how process and consistency was so important.
That year I achieved the highest rating possible with Capital Group in my yearly performance review.
I then transitioned to Capitals Release team lead of 6. Here I was asked to lead and execute a project called “Hands-free Release”. The mindset was to eliminate the need to have a dedicated release team and pass ownership of software releases to development teams while adhering to regulatory rules for financial companies.
As lead of the Release team, we utilized the services of ServiceNow and XLDeploy to create the “Self-Service Release” effort. Utilizing these tools we were able to successfully implement a process where application developers could leverage these tools to allow development teams to execute their application releases.
During this time I was internally trained on AWS.
While on this team, we were able to utilize AWS to create an AWS dashboard as a “front-end” to the internal implementation of the “Self-Service Release” effort.
I was then asked by senior management to transition to the new DevSecOps team that was struggling to deliver value.
DevSecOps team
While on the DevSecOps team I was asked to perform the Scrum Master role for the Banzai (CI/CD) product using Harness.
On this team I help setup the Agile related components to help the team to deliver value and achieved those goals within my 1st year.
I was then asked to perform the Scrum Master role for the DevSecOps Enablement team and DevHub products housing templates and documentation for Harness. This would enable application teams to on-board to Harness quicker.
While on this team, I was still involved in the Agile Guild, SRE Guild and now DevSecOps guild to help spread the Agile, DevSecOps and SRE mindsets across the enterprise.
