Receive, log, and securely store evidence and property submitted by law enforcement personnel in accordance with departmental policies and chain-of-custody procedures. Verify proper packaging, labeling, and documentation of all submitted items to ensure accuracy and legal compliance. Maintain detailed records within the evidence management system and conduct regular audits and inventories to ensure accountability.

Prepare and release evidence for court proceedings, forensic analysis, and authorized personnel while maintaining strict chain-of-custody standards. Coordinate the return of property to rightful owners and oversee the lawful disposal of unclaimed property, narcotics, firearms, and other items in compliance with state and departmental guidelines. Maintain the security, organization, and cleanliness of the property and evidence storage areas. Assist officers, detectives, and prosecutors with evidence inquiries and testify in court when required regarding evidence handling procedures.

Participate in a structured police academy training program to develop knowledge and skills in criminal law, patrol procedures, defensive tactics, firearms proficiency, emergency response, report writing, and community policing. Receive classroom instruction and practical training in federal, state, and local laws, constitutional rights, and department policies. Perform supervised field training assignments to observe and assist sworn officers in patrol operations, traffic enforcement, preliminary investigations, and community engagement activities. Learn proper procedures for arrests, evidence handling, radio communications, and report documentation. Maintain high standards of physical fitness, discipline, professionalism, and ethical conduct. Successfully complete required examinations, scenario-based evaluations, and field training performance benchmarks to qualify for appointment as a sworn Police Officer.
