Organized the designing, printing, and distribution of the Manor Gardens Health Centre leaflet (London, England, 1990) Initiated, conducted, and selectively distributed a report of a study on the Accessibility and Healthcare Utilization Patterns of the Expatriate Community in Botswana. The findings of this study were presented to Medical Students of Jefferson Medical College and their Faculty as part of the International Day celebrations in 1995; at the 8th International Congress of the World Federation of Public Health Associations held in Tanzania, October 1997; and at” What can we Learn from Africa?” (ASAUK/RAS) Conference in Birmingham, 2002 Facilitated a group discussion on women’s health issues at the 1995 Women Gather Conference in Philadelphia Attended the 1995 Children’s Defence Fund Conference in Seattle, Washington Set up and co-managed a stall at Health Fair organized by a local high school in Philadelphia in 1995 Facilitated an AAUW Branch meeting, with speakers focusing on health insurance\ medical coverage for children; women’s health issues, from a physician’s perspective; protection of health service consumers’ rights, in Philadelphia, 1996 1997 Participated in the Gender Justice Education program as a resource person. This is a joint venture of the American Association of University Women (Philadelphia) and Temple Law School Education Program, focusing on the needs of High School Girls. 2016 Presented at the World Psychiatric Congress in Cape Town the findings of our study on Intimate Partner Violence as a Factor in Depression among Women of Childbearing Age in Kisii, Kenya.

Accomplishments

  • Member of the Mental Health Team unit which was part of the Medical Mission that visited Kenya in November 2013, to provide free health care services for a period of ten days My role was to conduct a study on Intimate Partner Violence as a possible factor in Depression amongst women aged 18-40 years

  • As a member of the American Public Health Association (APHA), I was part of the APHA and Academy Health Delegation that visited Cape Town, South Africa on a health study tour lead by Dr Benjamin in October 2014
  • Selected sites visited include but not limited to a primary health care hospital in a poor neighbourhood, a maternal/child health unit specializing in infants exposed to tobacco, alcohol and other drugs, the centre for HIV/AIDS, local medical students’ presentation on multi-drug resistant Tuberculosis and occupational health and a research-based demonstration project for Pediatric Aids
  • The visit concluded with an APHA and South African counterparts, SAPHA joint meeting to share ideas on addressing common global public health challenges
  • As part of the USA Delegation at the SA/USA Collaboration Conference on Child and Adolescent Mental Health held in Cape Town, South Africa in 2015 I presented the findings of the study on Intimate Partner Violence in Kenya, and on Nursing Interventions with Infants Affected by Tobacco, Alcohol and Other drugs
