Third-year clinical medical student with recent U.S. clinical experience in Surgery (12 weeks) and Psychiatry (6 weeks), including patient assessment, documentation, mental status examinations, vital signs, urine drug screening, and supervised management planning. HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist with a solid grounding in laboratory medicine and evidence-based practice. Clinical experience across the UK, USA, and Caribbean, with strong multidisciplinary teamwork and communication skills in high-volume clinical settings.
During my psychiatry rotation, I participated in outpatient psychiatric evaluations across adolescent and adult populations. I obtained focused psychiatric histories, performed mental status examinations, collected vital signs, and conducted urine drug screens. I assisted with clinical documentation, suicide risk assessments, diagnostic formulation, and observed medication management and treatment planning under supervision. I also engaged with patients’ families and collaborated with the multidisciplinary team to support continuity of care.
During my surgery rotation, I participated in the care of pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative patients across a variety of general surgical cases. I assisted with patient evaluations, reviewed imaging and laboratory results, and helped formulate assessments and plans. I observed and participated in operative procedures including excision of lipomas, management of abdominal wall defects, gallbladder disease, diverticulitis, and colorectal pathology. I gained exposure to sterile technique, wound care, drain management, and post-operative follow-up, while developing clinical documentation skills and an understanding of surgical decision making.
Conducted diagnostic virology tests and serological investigations (HIV, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis) using advanced analyzers (Panther, DS2, Liaison)
