I fulfilled this role during the WVNG's mission to aid state correctional facilities ordered by Gov. Jim Justice. I was responsible for 30-40 soldiers and airmen at the South Central Regional Jail. My duties included managing payroll, scheduling, policy implementation, and adherence to Army policy and the correctional facilities for the duration of the mission for both a day and night shift operation 24/7. A very fast-paced and unique mission set I was privileged to be a part of.
During this time, I served on two Task Forces. The first of which required that I travel to various businesses and healthcare facilities to instruct owners and staff on safety measures for the pandemic. As well as deliver various supplies to the aforementioned locations. Often at the beginning of the pandemic, it require that we wear hazmat suits and PAPR masks to set up hospitals, most notably Saint Francis located in Charleston, WV.
The second of which I served partly at Facing Hunger Food Bank located in Huntington, WV. I would prepackage boxes of food to deliver to families affected by the pandemic, either health or financially. We would also do large food drives to distribute food to the tri-state areas of West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky. I was a part of a team that was awarded the WSAZ Hometown Hero Award. The remaining time I spent at a logistics center partly managing the security team in Poca, WV, ensuring the safety of equipment, supplies, and members of the task force. This was a 24/7 operation as shipments of relief both in and out of the facility did not stop after normal work hours.
