FT C/APS Specialist, Permanency Worker – Sex Abuse Unit

  • Assess child and family’s social, psychological, and medical information, gathering relevant facts to develop a service plan aimed at effecting measurable changes within the family to address identified safety issues
  • Provide immediate and appropriate intervention in confirmed cases, including the removal of the child from the home, to protect the child from further harm
  • Develop and implement a service plan
  • Monitor the child and family’s progress to determine if adjustments in the service plan are needed
  • Confer with other public and private agencies
  • Work with family in reunification efforts by making referrals for services for parents and children, continuing to assess the family home, stabilizing children in out-of-placement homes, providing support to foster parents, etc
  • Initiate court petitions to the Family Court to recommend appropriate legal status
  • Submit written reports to the Family Court, including progress reports, Safe Family Home Reports, and Family Service Plans
  • Attend Ohana Conferences, Individualized Education Plan meetings with DOE, Individualized Family Service Plan meetings (DOH), CPS Team meetings, and other collaborations
  • Provide case management services for outer island cases as a courtesy worker on Oahu for 10 plus cases
  • Engage families in the process of determining a service plan
  • Work independently with minimum supervision (only when required)
  • Carrying a caseload of 10+ cases to youth to ensure all needs are met for each case
  • Two of these cases are high profile and require extensive case management services for youth with extreme behavioral issues
  • Assisting the department sister unit (Sex Abuse Assessment Workers) by being on rotation for intakes that come in throughout the intake unit
  • Provide timely face-to-face interviews with children and all parties to the case
  • Provide referral for child/children to complete a forensic interview

  • Prepare the initial Safe Family Home and Family Service Plan for the petition hearing usually held within 3-4 days of confirmation of abuse, threaten abuse, and threaten neglect and/or use of illegal substances by parents/caregivers
  • Submit necessary referrals to service providers for parents and children to help and assist families with the goal of reunification
  • Work in partnership with service providers for parents and children to help and assist families with the goal of reunification
  • Prepare court reports for case hearings and provide the department’s recommendations based upon parents/client’s cooperation and/or engagement in their court-ordered services
