- The Edge Started as a tiny coffee operation, with a plastic espresso machine from Sears, a time share with an existing delicatessen. We transformed it from a deli to a coffeehouse every day until we got our own physical building. By 1996 we were the first internet cafe in Memphis, I went to Portland and Seattle to learn all I could about the coffee business we had a phenomenal blend and stellar signature drinks. I designed and built my own 50-pound coffee roaster and roasted the coffee for our blend. The Edge became what I still fondly refer to as a 5,000 square foot cultural experience. We maintained web presence had live music at least 3 days a week, plus karaoke and songwriters’ night, poetry, pool tournaments, a cigar club, I could increase the list every part of it was my job description. I closed and opened several times up to May of 2013.
