This included all deck maintenance as well as rescue and survival gear all while simultaneously maintaining qualification currencies by getting underway for day and night operations.

  • Main responsibilities included on-loading and off-loading of 40, 50 and 60ft piles used for building aids to navigation. While underway, it was my responsibility as a deck hand to be proficient in all rigging operations while slinging heavy loads from our 84 ft barge mounted crane while building day boards, dropping buoys and building navigational ranges. All personnel were also responsible with standing helm and lookout, filling our watch quarter station bills, as well as standing mid-watch during night hours.
