While underway, it was my responsibility as a deck hand to be proficient in all rigging operations while slinging heavy loads from our 84 ft barge mounted crane while building day boards, dropping buoys and building navigational ranges. All personnel were also responsible with standing helm and lookout, filling our watch quarter station bills, as well as standing mid-watch during night hours.
