  • Being an instructor has given me the opportunity to share my knowledge with others
  • I have to communicate effectively with my students to make sure they feel comfortable and confident
  • Teaching is incredibly rewarding because I get to see people from all ages and backgrounds succeed and have fun
  • I have to be able to read body language and facial expressions and fluctuation in tone to ensure that my students are understanding and enjoying their lesson
  • Being able to manage your time and energy when you have a full day of lessons is crucial
  • You have to be confident in your own knowledge and capabilities and be able to have a voice/project
  • Assessing safety measures and thinking ahead is an important role when working with horses
  • Whether you're working with a competition rider or a novice rider, you can create training goals that suit both horse and rider's needs

Working Student

The Talland School Of Equitation
02.2018 - 05.2018

I am a qualified coach through the British Horse Society. In February of 2017, I got a full-scholarship to an international riding school in the United Kingdom called The Talland School of Equitation. By the end of May 2018, after being the first American to attend and complete an intensive course at Talland, I had graduated with a BHSAI and Stage 4 Flat and Care qualifications and was able to start teaching/riding as a professional.

  • Leaving my home country at the age of 19 y/o forced me to become independent quickly
  • I had to communicate well with all of the instructors and students because of international languages
  • Working six days per week and studying for exams was a lot to balance, but I was determined to be successful
  • After six months of working and passing exams, I was put in charge of the group of students to run the yard
  • We were responsible for the daily running of the yard and the welfare of all the horses/ponies
  • Time management was crucial to get all chores done and to attend lectures and lessons
  • I made some life-long friends and connections at Talland
