At 32 years of age I weighed 112 the first time I entered a gym: Obviously I had stronger incentive than those who are already muscular and well conditioned. So, as I trained enthusiastically I also haunted University of Texas library and pestered college athletes who had become friends and learn I did. Seven months after taking my first workout, I competed in and won first place, 154.5 pound class, in my first bodybuilding competition.
I had the enthusiasm for it and soon beginners flocked to me; I freely gave instruction in strength and conditioning and dietary information. As I had gained, my clients also learned commensurate with the effort the individual put into improving his/her body.
During the next five years I won the Lightweight Master Class of The Mr. Georgia Bodybuilding Competition; the Master's Class of the Southeastern Mr. America. The culmination of my amateur athletic competitions came during a visit with my wife's family to South America. Serving as International Federation of Bodybuilders' Special Representative to Bolivia, I took second place in the Masters Class of the South American Bodybuilding Competition.
