THON™ is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, and is found at the Pennsylvania State University. In this philanthropy, students and alumni participate in a 46-hour dance marathon to raise money for pediatric cancer. THON's mission is to provide emotional and financial support to families affected by childhood cancer, spread awareness, and ensure funding for critical research, all in pursuit of a cure. In my senior year at Penn State, I served as a THON captain on the Public Relations committee, where we raised $18.8 million as an organization for our sole benefactor, Four Diamonds. In my position as the Events and Committee Coordinator, I was responsible for:

  • Planning and coordinating committee events to encourage both fundraising and overall committee bonding.
  • Leading my own committee of 30 THON volunteers to assist with staffing concession stands, donation stations, and janitorial services during THON.
  • Assisting other Public Relations captains with reaching out to media outlets and personalities to successfully and ethically report on the event.
