Accomplishments

  • On 8/11/16 as a operator I received a commendation from RTA, for being recognized by a passenger on board my train. He commended me on my leadership in the event of an emergency while my train/overhead catenary (where we get power to the train) was hit by lightning. He went on to say in his email, he's a veteran and he could tell when leadership and training takes over. He said "It would be easy to say Gerald just did his job, but the way Gerald did it. Outstanding!"
  • On 4/5/21 I was awarded supportive employee of the month from RTA. After finishing my shift as a rail traffic control supervisor, I would assist the operators by operating a train. Over a course of a month, I would stay for an extended amount of hours to help provide service for our passengers, due to low man power at the time, due to COVID.
  • On 5/6/2023 I was awarded the "Champion Of Safety" award. I received this award from the Safety dept. at RTA. On 5/6/23 a trespasser jump in front of a train on the tracks. I immediately called out our emergency broadcast, stopping all trains in and around that area. I quickly radioed our load dispatcher to immediately de-energize all 600-volt power in that area. Transit police was able to come and escort the trespasser from the rail safely with out any fatalities.
