Sr HS Instructor
25 Years- Have taught a variety of courses during my tenure with CCSD. Course taught include: AP/Honors/Regular U.S. Government, AP/Honors/Regular U.S. History, Honors Economics, Regular World History, Psychology, Sociology and Boy's Physical Education. I have taught at "at risk" high schools with majority minority student populations (Western H.S., Valley H.S., Canyon Springs H.S.), as well as at High Achieving 5 Star Schools (Las Vegas Academy of the Arts (LVA) and College of Southern Nevada H.S.). I am College Board Certified as an AP Instructor of U.S. Government & Politics, U.S. History, and World History. I was selected by the AP College Board as one of the few teachers from Nevada to be a College Board Exam Reader for U.S. Government & Politics. I have been honored by CCSD for having the highest pass rate for an "at risk" high school for U.S. Government while at Western H.S. and received several "Rave Reviews" as a teacher from CCSD.
Director of Equal Employment Opportunity
- Director for Equal Opportunity & Affirmative Action, Lecturer of Latino Studies in Latino Studies and Sociology Departments. Under general direction of Associate Provost and Vice-Provost for Academic Administration carried out responsibilities related to the University's Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action program. This position was designated as a Senior Level Officer in Academic Administration within the Provost's Office. As a Lecturer of Latino Studies taught "Introduction to Latino Studies" course and advised Latino Studies majors.
Director of EEO & Assistant Dean
- During my five year tenure at the University I held the titles of Director of Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action & Multicultural Relations my first 3 years. Duties included supervising professional & support staff, investigating claims of discrimination, providing training & chairing numerous University committees on behalf of the Chancellor, mediating grievances & acting as University Ombudsman. The last two years I became the Executive Assistant Dean in the College of Public & Community Service (CPCS). Administrative duties included overseeing the College's faculty and staff searches, acting as liaison to numerous faculty committees, assisting the Dean with tenure reviews, development and implementation of the University wide Diversity course requirement passed by University Senate, mediating grievance and governance issues, writing complex analytical reports and representing the Dean & College with various student and faculty groups (including the Center for Improvement Teaching). As Lecturer in CPCS taught numerous courses including: core courses in "Race & Ethnic Relations & Civil Liberties" Additional courses I developed and taught were: "Racial Politics & Affirmative Action", "Extremist Groups & Hate Crimes in America", "Political Protest Movements", and "Society, Politics & AIDS".
Director of EEO and Diversity
- Director of Equal Opportunity & Affirmative Action. Under general direction from the Chancellor & Associate Chancellor, was responsible for development and implementation of University EEO/AA plan. Duties included; coordinating and supervising targeted recruitment program, investigating EEO claims made by faculty and staff, providing EEO/AA and Multicultural training programs for department managers, supervisors & employees, & supervising office professional staff.
Director of Equal Opportunity & Affirmative Action
- As Director of Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunity served as a member of the District's Executive Management team under the general direction of the Chancellor and Board of Trustees. Duties included developing & implementing the District Affirmative Action Program, attending Board of Trustee meetings, meeting with the Chancellor and individual Board of Trustee members, consulting & advising the Dean's of the various District campuses, overseeing staff & academic appointments for compliance with adopted District programs, co-chairing various committees, serving as a member of the District Labor Relations and Collective bargaining negotiation team, acting as liaison to the City Attorney's Office on pending discrimination complaint litigation, serving on the State Chancellor's Diversity Task Force and drafting guidelines for implementing Senate Bill 1725. As a Sociology & Political Science Lecturer taught Diversity courses.
Juvenile Court Counselor
- Facilitated individual and group counseling sessions for at-risk youth.
- Developed personalized treatment plans addressing behavioral issues.
- Coordinated with court officials to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
