-Acts as the central point of contact for the donor/donor's family, surgeons, the ICU and OR hospital team, the recipient transplant coordinator and the medical examiner.
-Works alongside doctors and nursing staff in the ICU while independently managing all aspects of care for the donor.
-Maintains hemodynamic stability of donor in order to protect opportunity for donation and preserve optimal organ function.
-Orchestrates donation timeline by coordinating with multiple teams to aid in gathering diagnostic data such as blood tests, biopsy's, line placement and imaging needed for recipient centers for evaluation of organs.
-Leads OR organ recovery by slotting the appropriate OR time. Books all staff needed for the case, including a full OR team, anesthesia, perfusion and recovering surgeons. Confirms individual hospitals equipment availabilaty to accommodate the surgeons needs on Oahu and neighbor islands.
-Present to huddle with ICU and OR staff directly to allow for seamless transportation of donor from the unit into the OR.
-Remains key point of contact throughout the organ case delivering the time out and facilitating information to outside recipient centers as needed.
-Works up patients for potential for organ donation suitability by reviewing the referral's medical history via EMR chart review. Gathers timely updates on patient status by being present on the unit with the healthcare team.
-Team leads a level I trauma and acute stroke emergency interventions involving traumatic brain injury, ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke and pediatric head trauma
-Collaborates with bed control and multiple hospital staff to prioritize admission of critically ill patient for life saving measures as quickly as possible
-Works closely with physicians/ nurse practitioners to quickly assess patients and deliver appropriate treatment for rapidly changing conditions
-Trains new nurses in proper techniques, care standards, operational procedures and safety protocols
-Builds a trusting rapport with patients and family members to deliver exceptional care
-Creates honest relationships with nursing staff to promote open communication and accountability
