Giovanni Troiano

Prior member of the Connecticut Army National Guard and current student at Western Connecticut State University with aspirations of entering Social Work and Law Enforcement. I am eager to bring leadership experience and skills acquired as an infantryman and utilize knowledge attained while furthering my education at WCSU to serve as an asset to Social Workers in the Police Department. Highly proficient in my duties, with great attention to detail, composure under stress, and the ability to work with others, looking to help protect and serve those in my community.

• A successful tour of duty to the Horn of Africa in support of Operation Freedom Sentinel
• Built field hospitals/aided in security for actual hospitals when the unit was activated for COVID orders
• Recognized for achievements by having been 3 times awarded the Army Achievement Medal
• Led a team of gunners while serving as an assistant gunner on the M240L
• Served as a police explorer for the town of Cheshire, CT, 2015-2018
• Led the police explorer program, being in charge of 15 explorers
• Awarded certificates for completing Phase II/III of the police explorer program at Post University for the town of Cheshire, CT
• Awarded the Swat Day Medal and Stations Day Medal for achieving above standard while serving as a cadet for the Police Explorers
• Served as a member of the Naval Sea Cadets from 2015 - 2018
• Served as a squad leader, leading appx. 20 cadets
• Led BRAVE (Bringing Remembrance to All Veterans Everywhere) organization leading events
• CLS (Combat Lifesaver) qualified
• Was Vice President and President of WCSU Sigma Chi Fraternity
• Was President of Fraternity and Sorority Life

• At the FACE Center, I gained valuable experience participating in individual, group, and family meetings, including literacy and math nights, ESL classes, and school attendance meetings. I also tracked federal and state education policies, contributed to the Danbury Collective on mental health services, early childhood education, and school attendance, and assisted in planning the Family University event for April 2025. Additionally, I attended bi-monthly meetings for the Extended Learning Program, Family Resource Center, and community resource groups, while participating in focus groups on mental health and school attendance. Through workshops and training, I further developed my social work knowledge, focusing on supporting families new to Danbury and addressing both macro-level policy issues and micro-level individual needs.
