At Gilden Woods Early Childcare Center I would float between several classrooms both filling into assistant teach as well as well as teach in a lead role. I would clean and organize classrooms to be prepared for student learning. I would serve meals and deliver supplies to classrooms when extra time was available. While lead teaching, I would delegate tasks among coworkers to create an effective teaching environment.
I completed my Teacher Internship while attending Grand Valley State University. During my Teacher Internship I was expected to first assist the cooperating teacher whenever possible. Then, I had to begin teaching in the classroom full time for five weeks. I had to create and implement daily lesson plans for all subjects as well as complete an Instructional Plan to determine students’ mathematical growth and understanding. The PCKT program requires all teacher interns to complete five lessons, each pertaining to a different subject. I attended PLC, IEP, General Staff, Progress Monitoring and Curriculum meetings, as well as parent teacher conferences. During these meetings and conferences, I was expected to participate and use the information provided to inform my instruction in the classroom. I worked closely with the MTSS and Special Education specialists in my building to provide the best possible instruction for those students.
I complete my TA experience while attending Grand Valley State University. During my Teacher Apprenticeship I was expected to assist the cooperating teacher whenever possible. I was also instructed to create and implement three different lessons. The lessons I created were used in three different language arts content areas following Michigan State ELA standards. I worked closely with students and ran my own MTSS Reading group focusing on comprehension strategies. I would attend PLC meetings, parent teacher conferences and progress monitoring meetings with MTSS Specialists.
At Lakeshore Little Peoples Place I would assist in classrooms with kids ages 6 weeks to 10 years of age. I spent most of my job in the preschool room with students ages 3 to 4. I would set up snack, talk to parents, create, and update newsletters and teach different lessons when the lead teacher was absent.
While at YMCA Day Care I was one of two assistant day care providers at Lakewood Elementary School in Holland, Michigan. Assistants would complete tasks for the Lead Teacher. I would plan and complete crafts as well as lead activities with elementary students before and after school.
While at YMCA Summer Camp I was a camp counselor at Lakeshore Elementary school in Holland, Michigan. I was paired with five elementary students. Our daily schedule involved crafts, snacks, and outside play time. We would learn different information about our themes each week.
At Holland Hospital I delivered food to patients, escorted patients, and guests to and from different sections and units. I ran errands for staff and occasionally delivered flowers to families and patients.
