I provide support for students with two languages in the home through lessons that incorporate academic language acquisition. These lessons include visuals, vocabulary, sentence frames, turn and talk, scaffolding, along with other strategies that encourages student learning within the new CKLA Reading curriculum.

I utilize the necessary elements of CKH (Capturing Kids Hearts) through the use of a Social Contract, Greeting at the Door (kids love this and so do I!), and

Good Things (time permitting).

I have supported teachers with a "CLDE What you Need to Know" PlC that informed them of various documents. such as, Can Do Descriptors, Students Reports with the students Language Proficiencies, what the acronyms all mean, and the 1-2-3 year model plan for our MLs (showing if our students are on track in acquiring the English language, according to the state). One to two times a month, I present a CLDE Spotlight with strategies teachers can use in their classrooms to provide another way in which MLs can learn.

Also, I am usually one of the first people to welcome new CLDE students and their parents to Giberson. I translate often to make parents and the students feel comfortable and safe in their new environment.

I work towards being a team player to help achieve the goal or goals needed. For example, although I am teaching Language Studio, I also assist our school with meeting the students reading goals by use of PDSAs. As a school wide event, we read The One and Only Ivan, I was one that read part of the book in Spanish. This was not easy, but it was a learning experience for me as well, which I was able to use to show the kids we sometimes have to do things that are not comfortable. It was worth it in the end! A sense of accomplishment!

My duty position in the morning is a greeter. I get to greet every student, every morning. What a joy! I try to make sure to say their names as they come in. If I don't know their name, I ask them, so the next day, I can say their name!

I attend Parent-Teacher conferences of the students I serve and some of students that the parents need a translator. This helps put the parents at ease.

There are just a few of the things I do to make Giberson a safe and loving place to learn.
