Work History
Texas State Bridge Engineer
Texas Department Of Transportation
04.2006 - Current
Appointed as TxDOT's Bridge Division Director in September of 2018. In that role I am responsible for overseeing all aspects of TxDOT's statewide Bridge Program. That includes bridge design, standards, bridge inspection (Routine, Fracture Critical, and Underwater), asset management, funding, forensics, and construction support.
Heavily involved in numerous national bridge programs, and currently sit on AASHTO's Transportation System Preservation Oversight Panel. I also serve in leadership roles in AASHTO's Committee on Bridges and Structures and Committee on Maintenance, and am a member of TRB's Bridge Preservation Committee.
Prior to being named Bridge Division Director, worked in various positions within TxDOT's Bridge Division. My primary area of engineering expertise is in structural forensics and preservation. I am certified as a Routine Safety Inspector and Fracture Critical Inspector, but most of my work has focused on determining what caused the defects and what actions needed to be taken to address them. I specialized in performing in-depth condition surveys and damage evaluations.
Before joining TxDOT's Bridge Division in 2011, I spent five years working at the TxDOT lab, primarily in large scale prestressed concrete and structural steel fabrication. I attained numerous certifications while there, including Certified Welding Inspector and Precast Concrete Institute Level III Inspection (I have not kept either of those certifications up to date).
Before joining TxDOT I worked with a forensics engineering firm, from 2000 to 2006, focused on structural evaluations and building envelope design and performance.
