Summary

In Millwork I have learned over the years that it takes some Black and White thinking with the Gray areas to succeed. There are times when we need to stick to the process, and times when we need to think outside the box to get the job done.

My story with Spenard Builders Supply begins long ago, before Iphones and Youtube took over the planet. Freshly hired by Tim Walsh, I started out on the customer service team with Jim Nash showing me the ropes. I still remember the first time I walked through the shop, I could hear saws buzzing and nail guns firing away. I was excited to take it all in. Six months into customer service, I was able to move into the shop and start nailing up doors with Dave Leuer. I worked on the night crew for a while, and shortly after I was offered a position installing garage doors so I accepted the challenge. I was trained for a month or so then set free, sink or swim. I had great experience working several jobs, including Eilson Airforce Base- meeting James in Fairbanks and working with Jack and the Osborne team. After 7 years or so, SBS decided to move directions with garage doors so I took the opportunity to learn how to install commercial doors, residential doors and windows with Keith Furlong and the Wasilla Millwork crew- Along with Jim Freitag when we had the in house installation crew at Lois Drive. At this time I was a real black and white thinker, clock in and get to work on the task in front of me. Clock out and forget about work until the next day.

Then my SBS career really got exciting- Sales. Welcome to the gray area, this was hard for me. I once thought we can have a process and procedure for everything! I teamed up with Matt Day and we took the world on, and thrived. We then realized we needed some inside support for my sales as well, and here we are. I've been doing Outside Sales on my own for a few years- Constantly learning every day. I'm thankful for what I have learned with SBS. When I started, I didn't know how to read a tape- Now I can work on my own house projects for my family, and help customers out when they run into snags. My Install back ground boosts my Sales knowledge.
