CNC PROGRAMMER/MACHINIST

RNJ Manufacturing
Santa Ana, CA
02.2022 - Current
  • Company Overview: RNJ is a successful and sophisticated job shop with multi axis capabilities. We are currently providing high volume parts for companies in the aerospace and firearms industry. We provide milling, turning, mill-turning, and swiss machining.
  • My role at RNJ includes quoting, planning machine process, programming, fixture design, and setting various machines. Our shop layout includes 2 Haas VF2 SS Mills, 2 Haas VM2 Mills, 3 Citizen L20E, 1 Doosan Puma TT1800sy, 1 Doosan Lynx, and various manual machines.

SR. CNC PROGRAMMER/LEAD MACHINIST

N2 Imaging Systems
Irvine, CA
05.2015 - 09.2021
  • Company Overview: At N2 we are industry leaders in military optics, from weapon sights to unocular low light infra-red imaging units to AI driven missile detection systems.
  • I have led seven prototype contracts in the machine shop over the course of my six years with N2, while maintaining our production contract called ENVG3. ENVG3 is a long-term contract that was won by N2 in 2013. ENVG3 is a state-of-the-art hybrid night vision goggle. I helped the team choose the adequate machinery and tooling to ramp up. I also reviewed all previous programmed parts and implemented HSM, created fixture and tooling library, and worked with manufacturing engineers to design and machine proper work holding solutions to ensure production fluidity. My most recent and notable prototype achievement with N2 would be the Microsoft HoloLens IVAS project. I programmed and machined 12 optical benches for the IVAS project out of magnesium on our 2nd Gen DMU 50. Also, N2 has acquired its first ever commercial contract with the brand Vortex. Vortex is a hunting optics company that wants to implement low light capabilities to their scopes. My involvement in manufacturing the build of parts would include: review of part design provided by our mechanical engineers and discuss machinability issues and long-term production issues. Analyze dimensions and gain an idea of stock dimensions in Mastercam. I programmed 23 of the 30 part build and machined the housings on the DMU. Earlier this year myself and the team accomplished our deadline for Vortex, and they are enthusiastic with going forward with N2. My day-to-day workflow consists of monitoring shop output of production and prototype jobs, reviewing job queue provided by our planners, issuing jobs to the team, programming new jobs, troubleshooting issues that the team is having, purchasing tools and equipment, and machining on the DMU 50, which is a machine we dedicate to exclusively run housings or complex organic shaped parts. Programming a job includes the creation of set up sheet and allocation of material, as well as fixture design or vise jaw pocket. Our most common material in the shop would be 7075 Aluminum and glass impregnated plastics. But we do run a fair amount of 3 series stainless steel, magnesium, and titanium. Our shop layout includes the following: ten HAAS VF2s, three HAAS VM2s, two NHX 4000s, one DMU 50, three NL 2000s, and two Tsugami Swiss Machines.

CNC MACHINIST

Gearles Design & Manufacturing
Costa Mesa, CA
03.2012 - 04.2015
  • Company Overview: Gearles Design and Manufacturing is a small job shop specializing in prototyping, gear hobbing and shaping.
  • My role at Gearles was to set and operate their CNC equipment, hobbers, shapers, and conventional mills and lathes. I gained a lot of experience very quickly at Gearles because of the array of old machinery and new machinery, and because of the amount of work for a team of four people. I gained an attitude for getting the job done no matter what and a solid foundation of the fundamentals of machining, GD&T, and blue print review. The shop layout at Gearles included: one Doosan mill, two Femco lathes, 6 Fellows gear shapers, three Liebherr gear hobbers, two Bridgeport conventional mills, various gear honing machines and one conventional gear driven lathe.

CNC OPERATOR

QSC Audio Products
Costa Mesa, CA
05.2011 - 07.2012
  • Company Overview: QSC Audio Products is a leading manufacturer of power amplifiers and loudspeakers for cinema theatres and concert halls.
  • My role at QSC involved operation of the production CNC Router and varies second operation machinery.
