I originally came from a backward small town in China. Despite an imperfect childhood, my single mother poured all her love and energy into my life. She's persistent, concentrated, and ambitious. Most importantly, she never gives in to her fate. Thanks to her efforts, I first stepped onto this competitive land and opened a new chapter of my life at the age of 19.
Inherited her character, I was not satisfied with working in a Chinese restaurant without making any progress in my life. In the face of cultural differences and language barriers, life seems to trap me in Chinese restaurants. Luckily, growing up in my hometown's poverty, I got used to tackling problems and achieving my desires in many ways, also known as problem-solving.
After weighing several options, the U.S. military was my best shot. I got a chance to adapt to the U.S. culture, practice English, and I could cover my college expenses with benefits. In 2011, I served on board USS McFaul and started my U.S. Navy career. While in the Navy, I kept my motivation in everything task I was assigned. I am over-qualified in nearly every field on our ship. Meanwhile, as Logistics Specialist, I managed and maintained parts valued at over 9.9 million dollars, trained thirteen work centers' logistics knowledge, and contributed to our warship achieving the Supply material Certification with a score of "Outstanding."
In 2015, I finished my Navy career and started college life. Skipping SAT, I had to start my college journey at the community college. Santa Monica College was my starting point. Attending the college nearly eight years later than other ordinary students, I was not falling behind with other young students at all. Besides required General Courses, I took every course related to Maths, Physics, and Computer Science. With high academic performance, in the fall of 2018, I was admitted to the University of California, Berkeley. Data is a time machine. Analyzing data not only helps me understand the past but also shows me the possible outcomes in the future. To keep up with the new world and fit my flavor, I majored in Data Science.
In December 2020, I graduated from UC Berkeley. The expected job career did not come. I flew back to China in the same month for my father's health issues, and he passed away in early 2022. Struggling out of pain, I am ready, motivated, and excited to accept any opportunities I could have to start my career. I will try hard to provide a higher starting point and a bigger stage for my children to start their life.
