Gwynne Lennon

Taught physical education and health in schools throughout New York City from one of the toughest in New York State to The High School of Music and Art, one of the best in the country. As part of the PE curriculum, I taught swimming and dance at various schools. Before retiring from Bayside High School, I taught at several special education schools to populations that ranged from preschool, autistic, non verbal and children with behavioral issues.

Beginning at the Flushing YMCA taught swimming to children. I continued to teach swimming, coach and lifeguard throughout the area at the YMCA, Plandome Country Club, coached diving at WM Paterson College and Queens College, Starrett City Recreation Center, where I started a swim team, New York State where I taught throughout the city including to senior groups as well as started a team in a boys prison. I produced a Water Show for the first Harlem Day celebrations for NY City Parks. Coached Port Washington Girls Swimming Team. I also officiated swim meets in New York City and in districts on Long Island. As part of my business, I supervised and placed lifeguards in clubs across Manhattan.

Created and produced four water shows with swimmers and divers including designing props and staging, coordinating technological aspects such as music and lighting. Choreographing pieces for the shows. As a swim team coach coached girls JV swim team and divers for three years. I also was a substitute teacher during that time.

In addition to teaching health and physical education, I taught swimming classes introducing Lifeguard Training classes and First Aid and CPR. I was also Girls Swim team coach and produced the spring watershow (see Jericho description.)
