Clinical Experience

During my current clinical year through the Wayne State University Pathologists' Assistant program, I have had the opportunity to rotate though the following hospitals thus far: University Hospital of Michigan, Springfield Memorial Hospital, Sparrow Hospital, DMC Harper Hospital, DMC Sinai Grace Hospital, and Ascension Hospital Rochester Hills.

  • Gross description and dissection of simple to complex specimens, such as gross examination only specimens, laryngectomies, nephrectomies, and more.
  • Gross benign and malignant specimens.
  • Fetal and adult autopsies.
  • Gross imaging.
  • Assist in frozen sections.
  • Restock work benches and load specimen processors.
  • Communicate and assist the pathologists, pathologists' assistants, and lab staff.

Research

Cardiovascular Pathology Research:

  • Studied and researched Spontaneous Coronary Artery Disease (SCAD) at Case Western Reserve University as my capstone project.
  • Assessed the epidemiology, pathophysiology, pathologic gross and microscopic findings, imaging, disease control, prevention and intervention.

Surgical Pathology Research:

  • Studied and researched a case of recurrent laryngeal chondrosarcoma at University Hospital of Michigan as my surgical pathology capstone project at Wayne State University.
  • Performed gross examination, gross imaging and obtained patient history on the case.
  • Assessed the epidemiology, pathophysiology, pathologic gross and microscopic findings, imaging, prevention and intervention.
