In my freshman year of high school, I was commissioned to create a space for our local public library where young teens could feel welcome and included. Throughout the summer, I worked with a small team to transform an old room in our library into a vibrant space with computers, study areas, board games, art supplies, and books that any teenager could access in a judgment-free and safe environment. This space is still in use today, and knowing that I helped build and foster that environment for so many teens has helped me feel connected to my community.
