Part of medical team and am part of all things medical around the center. Responsible for processing new donors and evaluating their suitability for plasma donation. Performs physical exams on new donors as well as return donors, handle donor adverse events/reactions, am able to utilize and navigate Medical Reference Manuals and other resources pertaining to evaluating donor suitability, educate donors on plasmapheresis as well as all types of testing that are completed, evaluate Serum Protein Electrophoresis (SPE) results, as well as other duties around the center. Cross-trained as Donor Center Technician. As Donor Center Technician, various duties are performed such as performing donor screening which consists of performing finger sticks on donors to obtain blood sample to evaluate Hematocrit and Total Protein levels and obtain vital signs on donors as well as measure their weight. I am also trained in setting up the Plasmapheresis machines as well as taking the donors down/discontinuing the procedure once it is completed. Below are some additional duties.
As EMT-Basic and EMT-Paramedic, have worked in ambulance setting, dispatch setting, along with other tasks like COVID-19 testing locations. Obtained EMT-Basic license are graduating high school. Participated in volunteer ride-alongs on ambulance from August of 2019 to approximately December of 2019 in order to learn and practice skills prior to being officially employed by Acadian Ambulance Service in February of 2020. Worked in ambulance setting as EMT-Basic while in Paramedic school and obtained EMT-Paramedic license in January of 2021. Also worked at COVID-19 testing locations with Safety Management Systems, which is another department within Acadian Ambulance Service, from March of 2021 through January of 2022.
