Hans Renlund

While under the tutelage and observation of Head of Baylor Research, Dr. Mary Loveless, and with the assistance of Dr. Louie Elliott, the Baylor Research Program has allowed me to research into the fabrication of force feedback haptic technologies and their implementations into haptic gloves for virtual reality, using Arduino and Processing to analyze data and visualize data received from the glove and virtual reality, activating and deactivating the haptic systems of the glove and adjusting the positioning of the hands in virtual reality.

• 2019-2021- Four hundred or more hours were spent with my family and I in the stocking of three Free Little Pantries near the Gulfport Public Library, Gulfport Presbyterian Church, and THIRD LOCATION THAT I CAN'T FIND, greatly benefiting the local community and hundreds of people in the process.
• 2021-Current- Establishing the Free Little Pantry system in Chattanooga and Red Bank, Tennessee, with the help of my twin brother, providing assistance to the local community as a part of my project for the Baylor Civic Scholars program.

• Gave motivation to teammates throughout the season during sessions on the water and different workouts and runs.
• Assisted coaching staff with movement and maintenance of equipment on and off campus, both during and after practices.
• Placed highly in national and international level events, including Head of the Hooch and Dogwood Regatta.
• Knowledge in sweep and sculling rowing
• Experience rowing in: 8+, 8x+, 4+, 4x+, 2-, 2x.

Under the observation and guidance of Head Coach Boyko Krastevitch and Coach Enrique Nunez, I did the following activities as an assistant coach, as well as a fencer, for Tampa Fencing Academy:

• Guided and observed warm-up procedures, group practices, sparring with and without weapons, and educational games.
• Provided feedback to individual fencers of different ages and experience levels regarding technique, guidelines, safety, and other important information.
• Learned the basics of fencing instruction under several world-renowned, professional fencers and coaches of varying levels of experience and age.
• Instructed several different age groups of fencers, both adults and children, in proper fencing techniques, footwork, exercises, good sportsmanship, terminology, and stretches.

• Currently recognized as an Assistant Coach for Tampa Fencing Academy.
• Coached by professional, world class fencers in Epee and Foil that have competed at numerous different levels of competition, including the international level.
• Ranked top ten overall for the On Guard High School Fencing League of Georgia 2021-2022
• Placed third place for the second On Guard High School Fencing League tournament in the 2021-2022 school year.
• Fenced in the Y-14 and Cadet categories for Electric Epee Fencing.

• Instructed campers to observe proper behavior and etiquette to avoid conflicts and unruly activities.
• Communicated with parents about campers' activities and reported concerns and suggestions to supervisor.
• Worked with children of varying age, interest, skill, and developmental levels.
• Led groups of children safely through variety of camp activities.
• Kept athletic and games equipment and facilities organized and maintained.
• Provided to nutritional needs of campers during meal times and activities.

With the support of Head Crew Coach Garrison Smith, I was one of two Crew Camp Assistant Coaches. During this one week summer camp, I did the following activities:

• Instructed fifteen novice rowers in the basics of rowing through engaging workouts and drills both on land and out on the water.
• Taught and observed proper safety protocols during the entire duration of the camp to ensure the absolute safety of both coaches and rowers.
• Oversaw camp logistics involving transportation of individuals and equipment, equipment management, and constant communication between all entities involved.
• Provided maintenance to all equipment before and after usage.

Wrote and published one ekphrastic poem in Baylor's art and literature journal "Periaktoi" regarding Peter Blume's 1948 painting entitled "The Rock", emphasizing different aspects of the painting and putting a creative spin to characteristics of the setting portrayed in the painting.

• Provide techniques and advice to teammates from my experience of Epee fencing.
• Assist coaching staff when assistance was needed.
• Recognized as one out of 109 students in the United States to be on the USA Fencing "All Academic Second Team" for the 2021-2022 school year.
• Ranked within the top ten of all student athletes in the On Guard High School Fencing League.
• Placed 3rd Place in a On Guard High School Fencing tournament.
• Fenced Electric Epee and Foil.

• Promoted to the paygrade of Cadet Senior Chief Petty Officer [E-8].
• Charlie Battalion, 5th Company Company Guidon Bearer, Assistant Training Officer.
• Awarded "The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Florida Leadership Award"
• Eight time recipient of the highest institutional academic achievement, the Radford Star.
• In the 2020-2021 School Year, Admiral Farragut Academy's NJROTC program was given the Distinguished Unit status, allowing all cadets of that unit present that school year to be awarded the Distinguished Unit Ribbon, the second most prestigious ribbon a cadet can receive in NJROTC.
• Received twelve ribbons for various merit, aptitude, deportment, and extracurricular based efforts.
• Awarded one award for top scoring performances in an Academic Team Competition for knowledge in military/American history, NJROTC regulations, terminology, and other related topics.
• Was a top scoring individual as a part of the Armed Exhibition and Regulation Drill Teams.
• Top pace setter as a member of the Orienteering Team.
• Founding member of the SeaPearch team at Admiral Farragut Academy; highly notable role for engineering, maintenance, and assembly of the SeaPearch robot.
• Founding member of the Cyber Patriot team.
• High proficiency in Color Guard for both rifle positions and flag positions; a member of the Auxiliary Color Guard Team.
• High proficiency in Unarmed drill and marching, as well as guidon bearer.

• One out of 200 applicants selected from an applicant pool of 10,000 applicants.
• Learned the basics of Python, Cryptology, Engineering, and other STEM based skillsets taught by USNA Midshipmen and professors in a week long virtual course.
• Individuals were challenged mentally through a variety of individual and team-based challenges and activities.

• Learned the basics of programming, robotics, and other STEM based fields through engaging individual and team-based activities.
• Enhanced problem solving skills through difficult challenges and activities.

• Led groups of children safely through variety of camp activities.
• Collaborated with other camp counselors to design fun and enriching learning activities for campers.
