1. My name is Hayden, and I am a first-generation student at Texas A&M University! My Grandmother was a nurse for 40 years in rural Canada and southern California. My mother (Distance learning) and father graduated high school (GED) via alternate pathways due to violence in their schools. My high school experience was quite the opposite, and the community there helped mold me into who I am today. The stories I heard growing up sparked an interest in healthcare and education reform, and the positive influences I have been blessed with on the way have taught me that I can be part of the solution.
5. One of the biggest things about myself is that I am very collaboration-oriented! That's not to say I dread doing things independently, but I enjoy my work the best when working in tandem. The most rewarding successes in any organization I have been a part of, from Student Government to school/work projects are ones that we have worked together to achieve. I want to accomplish big things as both an individual and as a country! To tackle some of our most pressing issues such as achieving Medicare For All, guaranteeing college for high school graduates everywhere, and ending our shameful for-profit prison system, we NEED teamwork! Outside of work, I am a huge college basketball fan/nerd, and I would use off days to visit some of the schools and arenas nearby!
6. Working for Congress or a Government agency would be a perfect way for me to use my passion for public service and turn it into a way to make a material difference in people's lives. I am highly interested in the policymaking aspect of working in government, and a position in Congress or with a Government agency will give me new insight into how to turn progressive ideals into good policy. Additionally, I want to work with election campaigns post-graduation, and any role that can offer me new knowledge related to running for office will help me succeed in my ultimate goal of getting more progressive candidates in Congress and government as a whole. I have a background in talking to voters directly and in a customer service position as a barista for over a year, so I know what is necessary when communicating with people who may be passionate or upset.
7. The 3 magic wand policies I would pass on the federal level would be Medicare for All,
