Interests and Community Involvement

*I am a prolific reader and enjoy many genres of literature. I facilitate and manage Heather's BookClub in my local community that serves 40+ members for over 10 years now. We support local authors and independent publishers.

*I am a board member of the Arkansas International Writer's At Risk program in where we provide refuge for international writers who are at risk in their home country.

*I have installed four Free Little Libraries in my community in where there is free access and exchange of books. All four of these were converted to Free Little Pantries at the height of the pandemic, feeding several hundred local people.

*I volunteer, as associated with my school district, to distribute food to those in need.

*I am a mountain enthusiast finding rejuvenation and restoration under the tree canopy of a forest. I have a camper van named Luna and a dog named Jack. Together, we frequent off-grid trail heads for camping, and enjoy sunrise hikes in the beautiful states of Arkansas, Colorado, and Utah. I climbed my first 14,000 ft mountain top this past Summer and hope to check off many more during my lifetime. There is nothing quite like the view and serenity one finds at 14,000 feet.

*I like to make gifts for family and friends by doing cross-stitch or embroidery. My favorite samplers are those in which I can convey a message of love or gratitude. This activity provides a wonderful opportunity for stillness. It is very restorative to me personally, serving as a sweet connection from creation to gifting with the recipient.

Explanation of Gap in Work History

I married in 2003 and gave birth to our first daughter in 2004. I stepped away from the nursing field in order to stay at home with our baby. The topic of my returning to work created enormous conflict within my marriage, and therefore I did not return to work or retain my license. In 2017, we divorced with two daughters, ages 12 and 9. Eight months after my divorce, our move and settling into our new life, I enrolled in the RN Renewal Course offered by Baptist Health College as a requirement of the Arkansas State Board of Nursing. I completed the course, renewed my RN license, and began working for my local school system as a staff RN in 2019.
