I engage customers with a big smile, big heart and my undivided attention to listen to their concerns and questions. Sementes do Saber (Seeds of knowledge) is a project developed by Caritas Coimbra since 2011, at São José Community Centre. It helps schoolchildren and teenagers (between 6 and 17 years old) without financial conditions to support educational costs such as books and related materials. At the beginning of the academic year, Caritas calls for sponsors from civil society (as individuals or companies) to be “godfathers and godmothers” of these children and teenagers. They can help contributing with money or donating scholar books in good conditions to be reused. The project has helped more than 200 children and teenagers to improve their educational conditions between 2011 and 2018.
- I did prior volunteering in this project as a sixteen year old myself. It helped me complete high school without having to deal with the grueling costs of supplies through the means of a 'book bank'. In it I excelled, using my multi-lingual proficiency and charisma to attract tourists to our cupcake sales in downtown Coimbra.
Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change - across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves. For more than 110 years, Rotary's people of action have used their passion, energy, and intelligence to take action on sustainable projects. From literacy and peace to water and health, they are always working to better our world, and stay committed to the end.
- I joined the Rotary Club of Coimbra when I was seventeen. It included volunteer work in city renovation and cleaning, as well as internship and loan programs for those wanting to study and work abroad. I was granted a tuition loan and enrolled into the Faculty of Arts in the University of Coimbra, where I pursued Art Studies.
