GALLERY ASSOCIATE

The Gallery Associate is responsible for opening and closing the gallery, keeping the front desk and all galleries clean and neat, greeting visitors, ensuring a safe environment for visitors and the artwork/jewelry on exhibition, assisting with installations. Your specific focus within this role is to ensure the artwork on and off site are safe and stored/moved to and from the gallery with care. With this the location of inventory is Paramount to the gallery’s success, and so you are required to update locations in AL as art is moved as well as try to organize and update all locations as much as possible.

The ideal candidate will have the drive and desire to devote time, energy and enthusiasm towards the success of Maya Frodeman Gallery. MFG operates with a lean team in which each individual plays a crucial role. A hands-on working style, nimbleness and ability to navigate effectively in a complex environment will be key qualities in a candidate. The position provides opportunities for career and creative advancement. Knowledge of contemporary art and gallery practice is desired.

SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

• Pack art for all shipments (note: safe travel, on brand, etc.)

  • Provided exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries promptly and professionally, ensuring client satisfaction throughout their interaction with the gallery.

• Greet and assist gallery clients – short tours, show information, make sales, etc

• Bring art out to client homes

• Oversee art handling and storage

• Unpack new art/shipments

• Lead physical art inventory bi-annually

• Assist the Director of Operations, lead the movement and organization of off-site storage

• Update locations when moving art (define sections in both galleries to hone in on to update inventory location and make sure the piece is clean, and ready for show)

• Complete understanding of Artlogic inventory input

• Complete understanding of Airtables (art movement *framing section too, jewelry repairs/special orders, storage units/inventory, gallery needs/maintenance)

• Complete understanding of how to ship art and jewelry and can step in when necessary

• Assist in exhibition execution (wall labels, provenance labels, cleaning art on view, lighting exhibitions, movement, etc.)

• Oversee building maintenance (trees, trash in back and front, sinks, storages, pipes, heat levels, etc. …) can delegate out to team cleaning of these spaces

SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

• Keep shed and all storage areas clean and only with functional items

• Sales for both art and jewelry

• Keep van clean, organized, and ready for business use. (keep track of oil changes/repair needed of van too)

• Join/attend artist dinners

• Maintain consistency/accuracy for our online presence including:

TPG ART website (mark works when sold/take off when necessary, organize pages for curated look, etc)

Artsy (keep up today with what is our website)

• Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Computer/social media savvy

• Quality written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to engage with multiple communities and MFG supporters/patrons of all ages

• Knowledge of Mac platform and Microsoft Office software

• Knowledge of Adobe Suite desired

• Some evening and weekend hours will be required
