Senior Design Project

• Hands-on engineering laboratory experience that incorporated proficiency in chemical reaction engineering, fluid dynamics, mass transfer, heat transfer, process control, thermodynamics, separation processes, and HAZOP/safety. Managed the timeline for the project, coordinated and led progress meetings, assigned division of labor including accountability. Designed a portion of an acrylonitrile plant with ASPEN Plus software in which involved optimizing conversion rate while maintaining cost effectiveness and safety.

• Engineering laboratory experience that incorporated teamwork, data analysis, laboratory reports, and presentations in the following topics: Cooling Tower, Photocatalytic Reactor, Liposome Nanoparticle Synthesis, Batch Rectification Column, and Reverse Osmosis. Performed routine maintenance on lab equipment to ensure accurate results during testing procedures.

Chemical Reaction Project Haber-Bosch Ammonia Synthesis

• In a group of 5 individuals, we had to determine the compositions, temperatures, and pressures of certain streams undergoing processes such as preheating the feed, interstage cooling, and stream merging through reactors and heat exchangers. Through the utilization of matlab and prior knowledge, we were able to solve differential equations and determine the missing data.

Material Balance project

• In a group of three individuals, we had to analyze the provided plant design to determine the amount of methanol product that can be produced under the conditions provided. We utilized material and energy balances to determine flow rates, compositions, and heat/work requirements throughout the process. Our goal was to determine whether the current setup of the plant will be profitable and result in a product that is at least 95% pure methanol.
