  • Requisition forms, Face sheets, and Doctors Orders are collected in the beginning for the following patients that have blood draws ordered by the physician
  • All information is gathered such as Insurance, NPI, Diagnosis, etc
  • Requisition slips are put in order by rooms to draw blood efficiently
  • Each patient must be verified by Name and DOB Blood draw and collecting into blood collection tubes is next
  • The venipuncture site is bandaged after obtaining the blood
  • Tubes are labeled with Patients full name, DOB, Date, Time, and Phlebotomy number before leaving patients room Blood tubes are then centrifuged after 15 mins of coagulation
  • The Fridge is then checked for specimens such as Wound cultures, Covid swaps, Stool, UA’s, etc
  • This must be signed off by Nurse before leaving facility
  • If needed, check with staff to see if supplies or requisition slips need to be reordered
  • When done, daily log is signed off for quantity of blood draws completed and specimens collected from the facility
  • When sites are completed, the next task is to notify dispatch and wait on call for any other assignments

ER Technician

  • Patient rooms are replenished with suctioning equipment which are canisters, yankers, and tubing
  • Nonrebreathers, nasal cannulas, electrode stickers, Pulse oximeters, gauze, cobans, and Pure wicks are also stocked
  • Patients' vital signs are recorded every two hours and condom catheter and pure wicks are provided for those unstable to walk or incontinent
  • Any required equipment, bandaging, syringes or certain supplies are provided to the Nurse
  • EKGs are performed, urine specimens are collected, and patients are transported either to CT for testing or to the floor when they are admitted
  • Help is provided to the Physician assistant or Doctor with cleaning wounds, and bandaging, taking pictures of injuries, along with providing splints
  • Eye exams are provided for visual acuity and results are documented.

  • When getting patient from waiting room and patient contact is made, Name, MRN, and DOB with Medical band has to be confirmed
  • Patient is brought back to room and put into a gown and placed on monitors
  • Patient vitals are taken every 2 hours
  • Patients that are not ambulatory or incontinent are placed on pure wicks or condom catheters
  • When patient is admitted to the floor if transferred to tele they go on a heart monitor
  • Code blues are responded to
