Summary

Eagerly seeking a role as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant working with geriatric population. I have been working in Healthcare mostly SNF for over 16 years. I was a CNA for 10 years working as a restorative aide and rehab tech before going back to school for Occupational Therapy. I worked as COTA in SNF setting worked with numerous patients with various diseases and disorders. I am knowledgeable in treatments and modalities for restoring function and mitigating disability. I have 11 years experience as a COTA with the geriatric population, and 1 year experience in pediatrics. For the short-term patient, I provided many services under the direction of a licensed occupational therapist. I taught patients activities of daily living, such as bathing, toileting, grooming and eating. I educated patients in the use of adaptive equipment, compensatory techniques, and environmental changes to increase independence and safety. I also helped patients learn to cope with their discharge environment. This includes things like cooking a meal, cleaning a home and taking care of finances. I also work with other members of the rehabilitation team in dealing with the psychological needs of a patient, such as depression or anxiety. I helped get the patient ready to return to the community, and discuss adaptations and strategies for return to volunteer or paid work. I also educated patients and their caregivers about community resources and strategies to support post-discharge needs.
