I was a Milwaukee Police Cadet Sgt. I have been a police cadet since November 2019. I have learned a lot through this program. We conduct monthly in-service training, firearms training, and traffic stops. We did ride-alongs with officers during their shifts, responding to real-life situations. Observing, and even sometimes when necessary, helping out and assisting police officers with hands-on work.
Working at Portland Patrol is about patrolling the streets on foot, in the downtown area of Portland. We are dispatched to calls to businesses with unwanted subjects, mentally ill, welfare checks, sidewalk obstructions, sometimes even aggressive people who are harassing community members.
I have encountered very aggressive subjects that are mentally ill and have found solutions to deescalating situations. At Portland Patrol we fill out reports when we have an incident with car break-ins, use of force, calling 911, and witnessing a crime.
I worked at Taco Bell during high school, I learned how to fix minor problems with customers on a daily basis. I worked with different types of people who had different backgrounds which helped me understand people more. I took orders in the driv-thru, made sure orders we're right.
