  • Assist detectives and Orange County District Attorney's Office complete discovery requests by gathering evidence such as Crime/Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Reports, audio recordings, CSI photos, 911 calls, incident reports, etc., to help with their investigations.
  • Supervise Probable Cause Declarations on a daily basis for the Domestic Violence Unit by conducting in-house record checks of arrestees and linking their arrests to any open domestic violence cases they may have.
  • Arrange/Send victim letters out for detectives to help with their investigation and obtain contact with victims.
  • Assist investigators close domestic violence cases by calling victims and asking them questions that will determine the continuation of the case.
  • Refuel, wash, and clean detective cars on a weekly basis, if necessary and created a Special Crimes Unit database to keep track of how regularly the cars are being washed.
  • Notify/Call Child Abuse Registry (CAR) to report possible suspected child abuse incidents, write reports to CAR depending on the circumstances of the case, and always write a report of my involvement of the case in Tri-Tech.
  • Assist Sex Registration Unit with sex registrations from taking front and side view photos of registrants, questioning registrants, and completing imperative sections of the 8102 form before registrants initial and sign.
  • Learn the process of how to input sex offender registrations into the Santa Ana Sex Offenders Database.
  • Perform record checks of sex registrants, mainly for sex registration petitions comprising Criminal History; Record, Arrests and Prosecutions; FBI record check; and Local Arrests Records System.

  • Conduct 15-30 minute welfare checks on inmates/arrestees to ensure they are alive and safe.
  • Conduct thorough pat searches of inmates/arrestees to prevent contraband from entering the facility.
  • Complete the intake process for inmates/arrestees by taking their facial photos or tattoos, interviewing them regarding their personal information, and extracting their DNA or taking their fingerprints depending on the severity of the crime.
  • Observe inmate behaviors during medical visits with correctional nurses and intervene if needed. -
  • Write incident reports in a timely manner and submit them for supervisor approval.
  • Prepare inmates for court by escorting them to a holding cell, ensuring they take their medications before leaving, checking to see if they are wearing appropriate clothing suited for court, and providing a sack of lunch.
  • Accommodate inmates by offering religious, mental health, or counseling services.
  • Receive booking paperwork and probable cause declarations and verify it is thoroughly completed by the officer.
