Forestry Aid (Engine 6-46)

Job Duties-
- Knowledge of fire suppression techniques, fuel management, and safety rules.
- Efficiently use pumps and engines to run hose lays for mop-up and direct attack
- Able to chop and pile logging slash in a timely manner.
- Carefully patrol fine line to locate and extinguish hotspots, sparks, and flareups
- Responded to fire and safety-related emergency calls in the local area
- Attended other resource management activities such as reforestation, timber, and other similar assignments when not attending a fire
- Easily take orders and work with fire crew to suppress a full range of complex and difficult fires
- Efficient in running hose lays and using proper nozzles to suppress and control wildland fire
- Organized in cleaning and maintaining chainsaws to effectivity fell trees and snags
- Operations using drip torches to burn remaining materials
- Can use bladder bag for extended periods of time to search and suppress hot spots in controlled fires
- Proficient in observing and recording important information that may be used for a cause of fire
- Under direction of engine captain, can assist in operating pump and driving engine as well as other 4x4 vehicles
- Can recognize situations in which under unsafe environments can reposition engine for safer and more efficient operation
- Daily routine truck checks and capable of minor repairs to keep readiness of apparatus at all times
- Uses proper cleaning techniques to maintain durability of hoses, pumps, reels, and hose attachments
- Can preform organized scattering of fuels on fire line to maintain proper escape routes to safety zones
- Can work diligently when assigned by captain to carry out specialized assignments such as tree felling and burnouts individually or with one or more crew members from same or other engine crews
- Efficient and safe in hazard fuel reduction with chainsaws and hand tools
- Can properly follow organized assignments such as burnouts, to monitor and control fire line
- Knowledgeable in using weather collection tools, such as belt weather kits, to collect hourly weather on burnouts and other fire assignments
- Able to quickly adjust to different situations such as being assigned to protecting structure from fire
- Participate daily lessons of safety protocols and situations to minimize hazards on or near wildland fire
- Participate in briefing in safety of tools and vehicles to properly minimize safety concerns on wildland fires
- Can to the best of my ability with personal experience to effectively be a lookout and communicate with proper terminology such as estimated size and location to give dispatch accurate information
- Frequently maintain organization and maintenance of in use facilities and trails requiring project work
- Knowledgable in physical training and consistent in daily workouts to stay in shape for long and strenuous work

Job Duties-
- Proficient in maintenance and repair of chainsaw, and accurately sharpening chain and filing rakers.
- Can properly prime, start, and run the engine pump.
- Frequently draft and run pump on scene of wildfire.
- Can effectively write up a fire protection report.
- Adaptability to change engines as needed and effectively fill the role needed.
- Proficient in taking lead over less experienced or experienced firefighters to effectively preform goals, properly maintain apprentices, and maintain longevity of tools.
- Frequently perform leadership tasks, such as attending fire briefing, and then briefing other firefighters on tasks.
- Can efficiently fill out CTR and time sheets for proper hours worked.
- Comfortable in leadership roles when asked to do so and frequently perform, taking the lead on a fire as Incident Commander type 5.
- Performed forest inventory and data collection using GPS technology and mapping software.
- Participated in prescribed burning activities to restore natural fire cycles to an area's ecosystem.
- Operated chainsaw in a safe manner to fell trees and buck logs.
- Maintained chainsaws by checking oil levels and sharpening blades regularly.
- Reported any damages or repairs needed on saws to supervisors immediately.
- Communicated effectively with crew members regarding job progress and safety protocols.
