Reliable employee with knowledge of Missoula county 911 operations, medical skills, and wildland firefighting operations. Proficient at learning new skills quickly. Refined in problem solving as well as prioritizing tasks. Accustomed to working in stressful environments while maintaining clear communication with team members. Currently enrolled in Paramedic program with estimated completion date of November 2024.
For two fire seasons I was a member of the Bitterroot Interagency Hotshot Crew. My main role for those two seasons on the crew was to be a primary sawyer. My responsibilities included preforming maintenance on different chainsaws to insure they were preforming efficiently, cutting fire line, and felling hazardous tress. I supported my crew members on multiple controlled burns by holding fire line and suppressing spot fires . My secondary role was to be a care provider on the fire line as an EMT to my crew or to surrounding firefighters on large fire incidents.
The second year on the crew I was given the opportunity to become a Firefighter Type I trainee. I complete two fire role assignments serving as the squad leader. My primary role was ensuring tasks given to me by my Assistant Superintendent were completed in a safe and efficient manner. My secondary role was to coordinate with surrounding fire resources such as Type 3/6 engines and helicopters in fire suppression operations. In July on 2022 I completed my FFT1 task book and was signed off to become a Firefighter Type I.
As a ski patroller, I started off as a candidate to learn the responsibilities and operations of ski patrol. After a few months of training and displaying knowledge of the job, I was promoted to a full time ski patroller.
My priority in this position was to promoted accident reduction and skier safety by maintaining clear, visible warning signs and safety notices. However, I am also very experienced in the following:
For the 2020 fire season I was a member of a ten-person initial attack crew on the Nez Perce- Clearwater National Forest. Here I gained a respectable amount of wildland firefighting experience. We engaged in several initial attack fires on district using full suppression tactics as well as minimal impact suppression tactics on historical trails. Along with that, l was assigned to various large fires on type II handcrews throughout the season. I served as both a digger and on a saw team on several different incidents. I used all hands tools, such as a pulaski, rogue hoe, rhino, and combi to construct fire line. While on a saw team I used a chainsaw to construct fire line in various different fuel times from sage brush to mature timber. I also preformed duties as a swamper.
I was designated as lead pulaski on several occasions. In this position it was my responsibility of line construction placement. As an A faller I was tasked to fell trees on occasions including (but not limited to) fire weakened trees and snags.
I participated in multiple back burning operations throughout the season. Serving as a lighter in these events, I am proficient at using drip torches and fusees to carry out these missions. I also served on holding teams, gridding and scouting for spot fires during burnout operations.
As the only EMT on the initial attack crew, I was responsible for making sure all medical gear was inspect and up to date. Throughout the season I lead several different training sessions to educate crew members on medical gear function (such as, but not limited to, the SKED, KED, and tourniquet) along with proper usage. I was also responsible for responding to and treating crew members in medical situations/emergencies.
I was also apart of a Type 6 engine assignment later in the year. During this time I gained experience at the use of the Mark III pump, structure protection, and hose lays.
I also was apart of various project work during the season. These projects included thinning projects, construction of slash piles, and clearing roads of overgrown vegetation or fallen trees.
For the 2019 season I was a member of a contractor type 2 hand crew. This was my initial introduction into wildland fire where I learned fundamental knowledge and skills that would serve as the foundation to help further me in my career. While my main responsibilities was to be a firefighter, I also served has the crew EMT. My responsibilities included (but were not limited to) the following:
I started this job as a part-time position while I was in college in the summer of 2012. Every summer vacation between schools years I came back to work for this company. My first position with this company was a Mason Tender. My responsibilities for this position were to organize tools and materials, mix mortar, load brick, set up staging and clean the work truck. Along with those tasks, i had to learn how to operate around the work place safely, how to properly set up ladders, and how to operate power tools. I did this every summer until 2015.
After I was done school i was offered a full time position for Integrity Chimney. My responsibilities for this position were to install chimney liners, install chimney rain caps, construct masonry chimneys, construct metal chimneys, and clean flu systems. I also had occasional responsibilities to manage work crews as well as provide customer support.
