Work History

01.2025 - Current
  • Observe behaviors and mannerisms of potential shoplifters through Closed-Circuit Television and through Floor Observations. Making sure to always follow the AP Directives when following through with any case. Keep up with daily routines including, but not limited to: Walking the exterior part of the store at least once a day, completing Impressions of Control that include either coaching or recognizing associates for doing something right or something that they can fix. Communicating with law enforcement when we have someone in our custody or regarding various situations that may occur on the premises. Continue to build relationships with colleagues and management to assure that we are all on the same page and that we can all work together as a collective store. Having the ability to learn on the fly and being able to adapt to new techniques that shoplifters may try to implement. Working as a team and being able to have that trust with other Asset Protection members so that we can all work cases fluidly and without having to second guess someone. Remaining cautious, but confident when working cases and when getting ready to make stops on people who may or may not be compliant. Performing various audits and checks on certain departments (fine jewelry, shoes, beauty, etc.) that may require some follow-throughs.

Security Officer

  • Securing the mall, making sure everything on property is working properly and that no chaos or disturbances happen. If anything happens, observe what happened and report on it. Make sure to provide customer service and maintain professionalism with people/patrons, especially when they become unruly. Building rapport with managers and workers of stores in and on property. When scheduled to open or close, make sure to secure all exits by either appropriately locking/unlocking doors. Making sure all areas on the property are tended to by walking the premises or using a mobile vehicle to patrol. Assist law enforcement with reviewing footage for potential suspects and vehicles that they might be looking out for.

Asset Protection Detective

Macy’s Del Amo location
09.2022 - 01.2024
  • Observe shoplifters via Closed-Circuit Television, and on foot utilizing undercover attire. Make apprehensions on shoplifters if/when they exit the store with merchandise and have achieved all steps according to store policies. Being able to identify Organized Retail Crime based on movements, mannerisms and repeat offenders. Writing reports on anything ranging from simple merchandise recoveries to complex and detailed external apprehension cases. Work closely with management and colleagues to build trust so that they can also assist if they see anything. Train colleagues on what identifiers we look for so that they can learn our ways of finding oddities. Working internal cases on theft from colleagues was also part of the position along with learning new systems in order to properly track money and see if there were shortages. Also, having to go to court and being professional on the company's behalf is something that I have done as well. Building a good relationship with the local Police Department is also a crucial part of the job. Over the span of my Macy's LP tenure, I accumulated $83,969 worth of external apprehensions, merchandise recoveries and internal theft cases. In addition, closing procedures and arming the building were left as LP responsibilities. At the time of closing, it was a normal process to check every stockroom, fitting room and any area where customers/patrons would be able to hide and attempt to commit a stay-in. Being able to perform audits and assisting with inventory, when necessary, was also a common role.

Full-Time Student

West Los Angeles College
03.2020 - 12.2022
  • During COVID in 2020 and extending until late 2022, I chose to fully invest myself in furthering my education in an attempt to obtain my Associates Degree. While I wasn't working during a portion of this time, I was gaining more knowledge and skills that have helped in everyday life and in the workplace. From 2014-2019, I attended many semesters of West LA College already, but was never a full-time student. I was already pretty close to obtaining my degree, so I decided that during this span of time I would dedicate most of it completing that goal. Averaging 4+ classes a semester during this duration, I was able to be fully involved in all schoolwork. Having school as my primary focus, I was able to successfully achieve my goal and received my Associates Degree in Administration of Justice in late 2022.
